I’ve had users notice the toggle to Try the new Outlook, and naturally they try it out. But they’re then met with an upgraded version of the Mail app and a downgraded version of Outlook with a lot less features.
This then creates some frustration for users and and more work for me!
So here’s how to get rid of the “Try the new Outlook” toggle displayed in Outlook:
- Registry:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Options\General]
“HideNewOutlookToggle”=dword:00000001
- Office Group Policy
You will need the latest Administrative Template files for Office. They can be downloaded from Microsoft and installed, instructions for that here.
- Edit GPO
Once installed create a group policy and edit it. You will find the group policy settings here:
User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Microsoft Outlook 2016 > Outlook Options > Other: Hide the “Try the new Outlook” toggle in Outlook
That is it, you’re finished and happy to have removed this annoyance.
